Vigilante is a name used by several characters in DC Comics. The most well-known is Adrian Chase, a New York City district attorney who, frustrated with the legal system's inability to stop criminals, becomes a ruthless vigilante.
Adrian Chase first appeared as Vigilante in *The New Teen Titans* Annual #2 (August 1983). Driven by the murder of his family by the mob, Chase adopts the Vigilante persona to deliver a more permanent form of justice.
Unlike many comic book vigilantes, Chase is plagued by the morality of his actions. His increasingly violent methods and the collateral damage they cause lead to significant internal conflict. This internal struggle defines the character's arc and ultimately contributes to his tragic downfall.
